Das Magic Voice Speech Modul ("Magische Stimme Sprach-Modul") hat einen vorprogrammierten Wortschatz von 235 Worten, der durch Module oder von Diskette/Kassette erweitert werden kann. Die Programmierung kann in BASIC oder Assembler erfolgen, wobei in Basic zusätzliche Befehle zur Verfügung stehen. Das Modul spricht den eingebauten Wortschatz mit einer angenehmen weiblichen Stimme und bietet die Möglichkeit, natürlich klingende menschliche Sprache mit männlicher, weiblicher, kindlicher, nahezu beliebiger Stimme wiederzugeben. Dies wird durch einen eingebauten Sprachsynthesizer erreicht.

Die selbe Technologie wurde mit nur leicht veränderter Hardware auch im Commodore V364 auf der Hauptplatine untergebracht und mit einem Wortschatz von 261 Worten ausgestattet. Der V364 wurde nie offiziell veröffentlicht und mit der Einstellung der C264/364 Serie wurde auch die Softwareentwicklung für das Magic Voice Modul eingestellt.

Wirklich unterstützt wird das Magic Voice Modul lediglich von den Steckmodulen "Wizard of Wor" (Spiel), "Gorf" (Spiel) und "A, Bee, C's" (Lernsoftware).

Es gab von Commodore keinerlei Dokumentation, wie man die Sprache digitalisiert und neue Wörter erstellt. Das folgende Demonstrationsprogramm von Commodore zeigt jedoch, dass die Verwendung eines benutzerspezifischen Vokabulars möglich ist. The Magic Voice Speech Module has a pre-programmed vocabulary of 235 words, which can be extended by modules or by disk/cartridge. Programming can take place in BASIC or assembler, whereby in basic additional instructions are available. The module speaks the built in vocabulary with a pleasant female voice and offers the possibility, naturally sounding human language with male, female, childrens and of almost arbitrary voice. This is reached by an built-in speechsynthesizer.

The same technology was implemented with only slightly modified hardware also in the Commodore V364 on the motherboard and equipped with a vocabulary of 261 words. The V364 was published never officially and with the termination of the C264/364 series also the software development for the Magic Voice module was discontinued.

The Magic Voice module is supported only by the cartridges "Wizard of Wor" (game), "Gorf" (game) and "A, Bee, C's" (learning software).

There was no documentation from Commodore, how the speech can be digitized and new words can be provided. The following demo program of Commodore shows however that the use of an user specific vocabulary is possible. How this works, and much more besides, you learn on this homepage.
